What Do Conures Eat – A List of Safe Foods

What do conures eat? Quite a bit actually. Conures are parrots that are native to Central and South America. They have a diet that consists of mainly fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and insects.

The list below will give you an idea of what they should be eating regularly and what is considered safe for your Conure (or another parrot).

Commercial pellets should make up at least 80% of your conure’s diet. It has all the essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients your conure will need in order to be healthy, maintain its plumage and generally be happy. You can check out some recommendations here:

The last 20% will be made of the below foods at your own discretion and bird preference. Birdseed/seeds should only be a treat, and not make up the bulk of your bird’s diet. Once a month feed your conures a starchy food, such as pasta or cooked rice. Not more than this in most circumstances. It’s not a good idea to feed uncooked rice.

At all times your conure should have access to food, water, and a cuddle bone. The cuddle bone will allow her to sharpen her beak as well as give her a much-needed dose of calcium. This is an important part of a parrot’s “diet”.
